N-Acetyl Cysteine is a precursor to L-Glutathione, a sulphur-containing tri-peptide. Glutathione is required for the detoxification of numerous substances in the liver. It is also a powerful free radical scavenger, and combines with selenium to form the potent antioxidant enzyme glutathione peroxidase, especially important in protecting cell membranes.
