A variety of fungi in the Malassezia family have been suggested as a factor in the development of scalp dandruff. These types of fungi like to feed on the natural oils made by the scalp leading to redness and the speedy renewal of the skin cells. As the skin cells build up they flake off and new cell development replenishes the old skin.
Sometimes more substantial scaling is found and this is often caused by the skin condition , psoriasis. Anti-fungal treatments are not effective in psoriatic dandruff. The medical name for fungal based dandruff is seborrhoeic dermatitis which interpreted means inflamed skin (dermatitis) associated with scalp oil (sebum). Treatment of dandruff focuses on reducing the fungi that feed on the sebum. Eliminating the fungi reduces the inflammation and cell turnover reduces as the scalp returns to overall health.
Directions: Adults: Apply a small amount of Nizoral shampoo to wet hair and scalp, massage gently into a lather and leave in for 3 to 5 minutes before rinsing thoroughly. Use Nizoral shampoo every third day or twice a week.

- Imidurea 0.2% as preservative
